On March 24, 2023, the Washington State Supreme Court ruled in favor of a state capital gains tax, which was originally passed in 2021 to take effect starting January 1, 2022. The state will continue as planned and collect the tax due for tax year 2022, leaving just a few short weeks to file a return and pay the tax (the federal tax return filing deadline lands on April 18 this year).
